The latest security flaw found in IE

Earlier this week another serious flaw was found in Micrsofts Internet Explorer. Initially though to be related to just IE7 but then also associated with earlier versions. The initial feedback from Microsoft was to:

  • Change IE security settings to high (Look under Tools/Internet Options)
  • Switch to a Windows user account with limited rights to change a PC's settings
  • With IE7 or 8 on Vista turn on Protected Mode
  • Ensure your PC is updated
  • Keep anti-virus and anti-spyware software up to date

This has the side effect of disabling scripting so that many modern web sites will not function properly but at least secures your system.

Thankfully it would now appear that Microsfot have brought out a patch to fix this vulnerability and, with this applied, all settings can be returned to normal.
